All vocabulary words and definitions are given on Mondays. Words can be found on the weekly Newsletter sent via ParentSquare and send out via my contact list on my website. The words chosen are critical to fifth grade across the curriculum. All sample sentences must be related to our grammar. A general sample is posted on my website.
The mandatory vocabulary/ spelling contracts are described below.
*Google Slides is posted in Google Classroom as an assignment and must be completed in Google Classroom.
Begins Monday and due Tuesday by 7:50 am
The top text box must be the word and spelled correctly.
The second text box has the definition using the word with a complete sentence.
Example word: perseverance
Definition example: Perseverance means to battle through any difficulty to be successful.
Begins Tuesday and should be done Thursday by 7:50 am
Below the definition should be two separate complete sample sentences (complex and compound) that use the word correctly.
Complex Sample example: While Mr. Gumm displayed perseverance trying to locate his golf ball, he decided to drop a new golf ball instead.
Compound sentence sample: The golf cart ran out of power, but Mr. Gumm still finished his golf game.
Begins Wednesday and done by Friday 7:50 am
A background picture should cover the entire background but still show all your text clearly.
Pretest will be given this week and the test will be on Friday morning.
All pretests begin in class.
Any word or definition that is incorrect must be edited with a different colored pen.
Then all the words including definitions must be rewritten on a "NEW" sheet of paper correctly with a different colored pen. If the spelling is incorrect but the definition is correct, they BOTH still need to be rewritten: no exceptions.
Both papers must be signed by a parent Thursday night.
